Trading Plan – Monday 29th June 2020: UK PM Johnson says “no more austerity”

In the UK, PM Johnson has stated that there will be no return to austerity. In addition, a major infrastructure spending programme is being rolled out, starting with an initial GBP1bln to refurbish schools. Also of concern to the UK economy is the restart of face-to-face Brexit negotiations. UK Brexit Negotiator David Frost (who will become the UK’s National Security Advisor at the end of August, sending another message to the EU that there will be no extension of the negotiation period) will travel to Brussels to meet the EU team for the start of talks that are expected to take up to two months. In a video conference last week, Boris seems to have convinced the EU that he does want a deal and there seems to be optimistic signs coming from both sides that a deal can be done.
